Every woman is different. We understand. A body issue is a body issue and the emotional aspects are compounded when accompanied by real pain or discomfort. Breast reduction surgery is a beneficial option for women who are self-conscious about the size of the breasts, dissatisfied with their shape or proportionality, or seeking to rid themselves of debilitating back, neck and shoulder pain associated with breast weight.
A woman’s appearance affects her confidence and self-esteem. Disproportionately large breasts can be a source of poor body-image, self-consciousness and emotional distress. These are issues that can contribute to a woman’s decision to undergo a breast reduction. Other factors include a breast size that limits your physical activities, experiencing pain in your back or shoulders, suffering discomfort from a bra strap or noticing a skin irritation beneath the breast crease. Women also might consider the procedure if they have low-hanging breasts and stretched skin, if their nipples rest below the crease or if the areolas have become enlarged due to breast weight.
About the Surgery
Breast reduction surgery is a procedure to remove excess breast fat, glandular tissue and skin resulting in a smaller, firmer breast more proportionate to your body size. The procedure can be used to alleviate pain associated with large breasts. There are three common types of incisions that may be used in the breast reduction procedure. They include a circular incision around the areola, a keyhold-shaped incision around the areola and a T-shaped incision. Liposuction could be used in conjunction with the incision to achieve the desired result. In addition, the nipple will be repositioned and the areola reduced for a more natural, balanced appearance. While incision lines are visible, they will fade dramatically in the coming months. For women who decide the procedure is right for them, breast reduction surgery provide can provide renewed confidence, higher self-esteem, reduced pain and an increase in physical activity and stamina. Prior to any procedure, Jeffrey W. Hall, M.D. will:
Excessive breast volume can occur in adolescence or later in life after child birth. This can cause back/postural problems and unnecessary skin sagging.
A new reduction has been developed which lifts and reduces the breast without the dreaded horizontal incisions of the older “anchor” technique. This vertical reduction mammaplasty, unlike older techniques, repositions the nipple into a higher position and reduces volume with less scarring. The incisions are made around the entire outer circumference of the areola and down the lower centerline of the breast. This preserves the inframammary fold providing better long term breast definition, shape, and lift. The results are smaller, perky and more uplifted breasts without extensive scarring of traditional procedures.
Often times breast reduction can be covered by medical insurance with preoperative clearance. The procedure lasts roughly 3 hours and patients report speedy recovery at just 1 week. Schedule a consultation to find out if the lollipop breast reduction is right for you.
Jeffrey W. Hall, M.D.’s goal is to provide a safe and comfortable procedure for every patient. However, no medical procedure is without risk. Jeffrey W. In some cases, patients may experience contour and shape distortion, discoloration or pigmentation changes, damage to nerves or blood vessels, breast asymmetry, fluid accumulation or excessive firmness. Potentially, patients may have difficulty breast feeding if they become pregnant.
Most patients recover quickly and can return to light-duty tasks the next day. Expect to resume your usual activities and and be back on the job within a week. Full recovery takes 4 to 6 weeks and, while incision lines will never be invisible, they will fade substantially over the first year.
